I often get inquiries from brides about my wedding photography coverage and pricing.  After I tell them my packages and what they include, I sometimes get a response such as this one: “Well my fiancé’s mother has a friend who will do our engagements, bridals, and the entire wedding day for $300.”  Others list a price and ask, “Would you be able to shoot our wedding for that much?”  As much as I wish I could help you out, I cannot do an entire wedding package for that amount.  There is so much time, effort, and money, not to mention passion and creativity, that goes into my business to get you the best product, and I won’t compromise the quality and my standard of my work to give you less than my best. The wonderfully talented Camilla Binks was in search of an assistant for this wedding, and I jumped at the chance to work with her.  I told her I would do it about a week before the date.  The wedding was on Saturday, and on Wednesday night I came down with the worst cold of my life (we’re talking a 3 boxes of tissues, constant cough syrup and sounding-like-a-choking-walrus kind of cold).  I was just about to call her and cancel, however sad I was to do so, when I started to feel better on Friday afternoon, hallelujah!  But then I had to go and ruin it.  I had a family shoot scheduled for Friday evening, a portrait session scheduled for Saturday morning, and then the 9 hours of wedding coverage Saturday afternoon and evening.  I pushed myself instead of babying it, and the cold came back late Friday night with a…

I’ll admit, after a lot of inclement weather leading up to this winter bridal shoot I was struggling to feel my usual love for Utah and its unpredictable winters, but after this session, I’ll never want to reschedule a session due to predicted snow again — it was pure magic.  Cold as flip, but magic!  Luckily McKahl & Mitch are super adventurous, wanted snow, and didn’t care if their clothes got wet or if their hair got messed up.  This was a formal session where I walked away with 4 or 5 of new “all-time favorite” shots.      I want to tell my fellow photographers about these amazing presets from Mastin Labs.  I had never heard of them until I randomly came across them via Facebook, but as soon as I visited the website I was hooked and dying to give them a try – once I had these, any and all other presets went out the door.                    My opinions on making the switch: the aesthetic Mastin gives is very much the style I’m attracted to, love, and want in my own work.  I’ve only just started experimenting with film, so I’m on my way to my goal of being a hybrid photographer.  It definitely takes some adjusting, especially if you’ve been using and have perfected your technique with VSCO.  Several gals from a local photography group on Facebook have already tried Mastin and they really didn’t like the results…

THIS COUPLE.  I went into this wedding second shooting for Morgan Nielsen of In Frames Photography, so I had never met the couple before but I’m so glad that I got to be a part of their story.  Aside from being utterly gorgeous, Jen is laid back, down to earth and colorful – she’s basically Jennifer Lawrence’s twin, both in look and in personality.  Isaiah is a dapper gentleman and a loving father, as you can tell from the photos with the couple’s sweet son below.  I wish the very best to this sweet family! This beautiful venue is magical, covered in Christmas lights and pine wreaths and garlands.  The bride’s white rose bouquet complemented the warm rustic theme with mini pinecones and sprigs of cedar needles, wrapped in a burgundy, satin ribbon.  Her off-shoulder lace gown was dreamy as could be and fit like a glove, and the couple’s wedding cake…

Spending an evening with this couple was definitely my favorite engagement session to date!  Even from their consultation I knew Katie & Travis were going to be gems to work with, but it wasn’t until we started shooting that I got to see how passionate and fun their love really is; they are simply smitten with each other. Katie works and is going through nursing school, so she freely handed over the planning and styling of their engagement shoot to me – score!  I presented my ideas for a hot chocolate date in the back of Travis’s pickup truck and they loved it!  We started shooting at Silver Lake, hoping to catch some of the season’s fall colors, then moved down the canyon in search of a spot to park the truck, ending at a rich rock formation bathed in airy light.  I’ve been waiting and hoping for one of…

I hope everyone had an absolutely lovely Christmas!  It’s by far my favorite holiday, and I used to get a little depressed in the days and weeks that followed, knowing that it would be a whole year until the season returned with its fresh, clean snow, scarves, family and friends, Christmas music and holiday greetings, not to mention amazing food by candlelight and tree light.  But last year, and this one as well, I find myself more excited for the new year, because not only are the days getting longer again (photographers are squealing in gratitude at this), there are changes to be made and growth to happen, both in myself personally as well as in my business!  I didn’t take advantage of New Year resolutions when I was younger, but now I see it for the opportunity that it really is, and now I’m eager to write down and genuinely…

Ashley & Diego Engagements | Utah Wedding Photographer April 8, 2015 Ashley and I went to high school together but we were a year apart, and I only met her once when we were in the same prom group together; and now I’m shooting her wedding this week!  Small world, don’t you think?  Diego is from Brazil, so he traveled a bit further to find his bride-to-be.  These two are fabulous together, laughing and adorable with each other throughout the entire engagement session, and not that looks are everything, but they look so good together!  I can’t wait to share their beautiful bridal session with you later on, as well as their wedding!  And don’t forget to check out Ashley’s lovely princess-cut engagement ring, Diego designed it himself. We chose a couple different locations in downtown Salt Lake City, and even though we shot at the beginning of February we were lucky…
