Good morning, afternoon, and evening everyone, whenever you’re reading this!  I’m so glad to be sharing this summer engagement sessions with you, and thrilled to say that it was featured today over at Utah Bride Blog!

Sydney specifically wanted their engagement photos set in an orchard, and she also wanted a canoe, so the beautiful Provo, UT area seemed a great choice for her vision. While she didn’t want the shoot to be overly styled, she wanted to make a “nod to vintage/lover’s lane” look, so she chose to include her mint beach cruising bike and we planned for the couple to share a dessert “picnic” in the canoe.  It all came together beautifully, and the couple’s lakeside outfits are a fantastic example of the right way to mix patterns and shades of a chosen color, not to mention intentional layering in both outfits that add visual interest and texture to the images.  For more tips on how to choose outfits for photos, visit this page!  I’m still swooning over Syd’s amazing shoes and the neutral color palette that will complement their wedding colors.

I have to say too, this shoot was a bit of an adventure.  Getting the canoe off of the truck was one thing, getting it back on at the end of the night with barely any light was another.  The muddy shoes were worth it though for the magical light over Utah Lake.

One more thing to mention is Syd’s ring: a solitaire oval cut diamond (my absolute favorite!) set in a yellow gold vintage-style band.  Peter did a great job choosing that one.

THIS COUPLE.  I went into this wedding second shooting for Morgan Nielsen of In Frames Photography, so I had never met the couple before but I’m so glad that I got to be a part of their story.  Aside from being utterly gorgeous, Jen is laid back, down to earth and colorful – she’s basically Jennifer Lawrence’s twin, both in look and in personality.  Isaiah is a dapper gentleman and a loving father, as you can tell from the photos with the couple’s sweet son below.  I wish the very best to this sweet family!

This beautiful venue is magical, covered in Christmas lights and pine wreaths and garlands.  The bride’s white rose bouquet complemented the warm rustic theme with mini pinecones and sprigs of cedar needles, wrapped in a burgundy, satin ribbon.  Her off-shoulder lace gown was dreamy as could be and fit like a glove, and the couple’s wedding cake looked like it was frosted in snow.  It was lovely to see such beautiful details in harmony with the winter season.

Meet the happy couple’s handsome little son!  Babies in tuxes are just about the cutest thing in the world.

Isaiah kept pushing his glasses up onto his nose, a mannerism that I’m sure is one of Jen’s favorite things about him.  And below on the right is the moment we said it was time to go inside for the ceremony to begin – that’s his “Let’s get married!” face, and I love it!

While I truly enjoy first looks sessions between the bride and groom, I also love the build up to the moment where the groom sees his love for the first time in her wedding dress.  I adored this sweet moment between the two of them before the ceremony began.

I love these two.  Ashley’s style is very classic and romantic, so she chose a beautiful ball gown wedding dress from Gateway Bridal and chose a perfectly classic ensemble for Diego: a fitted navy blue suit with cognac oxford shoes and a belt to match.  Their wedding colors are navy and blush, so her blush pink and white silk bouquet tied in beautifully.  Even before the lovebirds booked me, Ashley was certain that she wanted to have her bridal session at the Utah State Capitol for its elegance and beauty, and I’m so glad that she did.  Afterward we popped over to Memory Grove for that perfect sunlight.

I can’t wait to share their wedding with you, so be sure to check back later for more!

I can’t get enough of these two and their infectious smiles.  We made sure to keep Ashley’s dress a secret up until this moment, where Diego saw her for the first time.

Cinderella, much?  The Capitol was the perfect romantic setting for Ashley’s vision.

  • Her dress does remind me of Cinderella! These images are gorgeous Kat, they were SO smart to hire you as their photographer! I can’t wait to see their wedding day portraits!ReplyCancel

  • These are so pretty. My favorite is the one where she is walking down those stairs…so beautifully shot!ReplyCancel

Be prepared for the cutest head of curls you’ve ever seen!  The sweet Stubbs family invited me into their lovely home for a relaxed and warm lifestyle session. This couple adopted their handsome little son here in Utah, and Brandy has given me permission to share a few details of their adoption story.

“We weren’t even 100% sure that we were going to get him, because the mothers aren’t allowed to sign the adoption papers saying that this is what they really want until 24 hours after the baby has been born. He got pneumonia the first day, so we got to have the experience of being with him in the hospital for his first days, which was really neat. We had met with her beforehand and knew that she had picked us, and she lives here in town so we see her often and have a good relationship with her.”

The family’s home is warm and full of love, and it was a treasure to be with them.  Plus look at their adorable outfit choices, that color palette is soft and airy and blends perfectly with their home decor and scheme.

I just had to include one with Baby’s “excited” face, as well, I may have been gushing over him more than his momma.

This was my favorite detail of the shoot, for sure.  These two really love their sweet baby boy, and it’s important to them to keep his birth mother a part of his life.  This book entitled, All The Ways I Love You, has a recorder in it, with his birth mom’s voice reading the story.  It was very sweet to watch, and you can see the joy in each of their faces as they share this moment together.  That book is sure to be a treasured keepsake for them all.

And of course we can’t leave out the cat; pets are family members, too.

Again, thank you for inviting me into your loving home to spend some time with your adorable family, I wish you all the best!

It has been a long wait to share this session, I love it so much but of course I needed to wait until after the lovely couple’s wedding to share, since the bride gave her printed boudoir photos to her fiancé as her wedding present!  He loved them, by the way.

Braelynn was one of the ladies who reached out to me back in January when I was building my fine art boudoir portfolio.  From her first email I was dying to work with her!  Here’s just a snippet of what she sent me:

“Without even having met you, you’ve already made me feel comfortable. I love the words you used in your post, ‘I love the idea of being able to empower women and show them how beautiful they are, while maintaing a sense of class, romance, and femininity.’ This hit home for me. I would absolutely love the opportunity to do a fine art boudoir session with you. Thank you for making what you do, something that uplifts and restores the beauty that woman feel in themselves. I appreciate that so much.”

Brae is a gorgeous woman, inside and out.  She and her now-husband live life vibrantly, traveling together and having many adventures.  Brae has family down in Mexico, so of course they had to have their wedding in CABO!!  So jealous, I’m stalking her beautiful wedding photos on Instagram and Facebook, it looks like it was an incredible and utterly romantic, beachside event; very fitting for such a couple!
